The movie Star Wars™ changed the motion picture industry forever demonstrating that as much if not more money could be made on merchandise spawned by the movie than by ticket sales. Thirty years later studios continue to capitalize and, in fact, studios look at movies as 2 hour long commercials. The challenge, however, is how to get digital assets such as images, sound bites, renderings, and quotations into the hands of licensees in a timely and secure manner. Our client was facing this challenge as they tried to manage and distribute their digital properties to hundreds of thousands of licensees world-wide via fax, email, and mail.
Silicon Space constructed a secure Digital Asset Management system for Fortune 500 Entertainment Consumer Products Company. This system allows our client's Product Marketers to manage all of their digital properties and associated rights and licensing. Licensees world-wide can securely log-in to the web-based application and, based on their contractual permissions, download specific properties for use in their merchandise. This application tracks and reports on the access and downloading of the inventory.
By creating a self-service web application, our client has significantly cut the cost of managing and distributing digital properties and has reduced the time to market for merchandise thus increasing licensing revenues.
