Silicon Space's PMToolbox Enables Increased Transaction Processing

The Challenge

The Satellite and Communication Program Office of the US Navy's Program Executive Office Space Systems command was embarking on a 7-year, $7B program to build and launch next-generation satellites, but the email-based method of managing the delivery and acceptance of vendor work product was overwhelmed by the volume of documents and large, complex workflow of the approval process. PEO Space Systems needed to define a more efficient workflow process, and then automate that process with a highly secure, highly available solution.

The Solution

Silicon Space's "PMToolbox" (Program Management Toolbox) has become the de facto standard for automating Acquisition Program Office activities. With over 700 users, PMToolbox is a one-stop, secure, web-based workplace for Navy and contractor personnel, providing a collaborative environment and electronic document management system to manage program Contract Deliverables Requirements Lists (CDRLs), documents, risks, calendars, and action items.

The Result

The flexibility of the PMToolbox workflow engine now enables PEO Space Systems to route work product through comment / review / approve cycles that are multi-layered, looping, serial and parallel. The usability of the interface has driven adoption rates up and training time down. The integrated and highly secure document management system has enabled a headcount reduction and an increase in compliance. Overall, PMToolbox has cut cycle times, decreased program costs, and ensured 100% adjudication.

"Silicon Space has provided excellent CDRL management support to PMW146; of which, many positive comments have come from the effort."

SPAWAR Chief Knowledge Officer

"If we could give Silicon Space an on-the-spot award we would. The team's effort are definitely paying off and the PMT (specifically CDRL Tool) is a big success. Efforts to date have greatly exceeded my expectation."
